70-210 a wolf in sheep's clothing

This was shot off the back of our boat. Not too bad for bobbing around in the boat @ 30mph in windy conditions. This thing really is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

meh...i'd rather have a 55-250IS

I had that lens. I sold it and a few others to fund my 70-200 2.8. I wish I'd kept it. It only got me $150 and the IQ was fantastic for what I paid for it. It is also boatloads (no pun intended!) smaller than the 70-200 2.8. My copy had zoom creep (slam?) even worse than my 28-135, though.

For the $150 I paid for my 70-210 I'm very happy with it. The only thing that irks me is when I post in some forums and people correct me, telling me I must mean the 70-200 f/4 because there is no such lens as a 70-210. Seriously though, I've been using it to shoot dance on stage for the last few years and it hasn't let me down yet.

I'm pleasantly surprised by this lens every time I use it. Mine's 25 years old, my dad purchased it with his Canon EOS 650 back in 1988, and it still works great!

You've got the wrong lens. The OP has the later 70-210 with a variable aperture, conventional zoom ring, and ultrasonic motor. Focusing is about as fast as it gets with that lens.

ah whoops...didn't even know there was another 70-210, these lenses are so old that you can't get lens correction data for them in DPP =p

I missed that as well. I have the older f/4 with the push/pull zoom.

I had the f/4 first. It coupled with my older D60 could nail the shots as well. But nothing like the 3.5-4.5 and the 50D. I will have to dig some of the others with the f-4 and post them as well.

I recently picked up the f/4, and I will say I'm impressed with it for what it is. I also have the 55-250, and although I haven't done any testing, I find them to be fairly equal in IQ. I have zero zoom creep on mine.
