This 737, operated by Air Inuit, is equipped to land on gravel airstrips which are often found in Canada's north.

Hi PJay, thanks for your comment. Yes, it is a gravel deflector attachment behind the nose wheel and it's in place to prevent the gravel kicked up by the nose wheel from entering the engines.

As well, if you look closely at the engines themselves, there are little rods called vortex dissipators which prevent debris getting sucked into the engine as well.

They're really neat to see in operation on northern gravel strips, will definitely post some photos when I get up there.
