Update: So, in the end, Canon agreed that the lens was faulty and replaced it with a Brand New EFS 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS STM

Good for you. In today's world you need to continually hammer your issues until they are dealt with. Too many companies, and Canon is not above this, just give lip service at times hoping you just give up and go away.

Congrats on getting your lens replaced. When did Canon replace it? I'm wondering if it took months, that's all.

About 2 weeks with no info, then a phone call from the shop saying that Canon was sending a brand new STM version for me...turned up about a week after that.

While the old model may have been a bit faulty, I have to say the new STM model is very sharp and fast...

Nice result for the OP. On the Canon Australia website you can register your products and upload a receipt. I always do this as soon as I get a new toy home.
