Howdy folks, I've been poking around the forums for a while, mainly on the lighting board, but i'm considering offering wedding services.

Maybe.

A big MAYBE.

So I thought I say Hi, and post this article.

I'm sure it's happened to most of you professionals, it's certainly something I hadn't even considered. It's been 20 years since I did any work as a second shooter, and back then it wasn't an issue.

Anyway this article might come in handy when talking with brides about their wedding.

Thanks, so true and so annoying when shooting a wedding. Particularly bothersome are the guests who stand behind you taking pictures during the group shots. So many otherwise perfect shots ruined because on or more of the subjects end up looking at the wrong camera!

I shot a wedding this past weekend, and it wasn't a formal wedding with seats and a isle. It was guests sitting at tables and the reception was the same place. The guests walked in from of me for about every shot during the wedding and reception. I think I am going to bring this up with future clients.

Shot my latest wedding this past saturday. This minister told guests not to shoot their own photos at the wedding. A lady literally walked around with her iPad taking shots while my partner and I were shooting. She didn't get in our way but the fact that she walked around with a 9" tablet in front of her face was incredibly annoying.

One of the first things we do when we arrive at the reception is identify the potential "Uncle Bobs"

Before the ceremony I always ask the officiant to tell everyone to put the cameras away. Most happily do so as they also don't like flashes from guests.

I purposely back up into people shooting behind me for formals and act surprised they are there. They usually move and get the message.

Howdy,

Thanks for the link, while I'm certainty no pro at photography I do like to wander around the forums reading and learning from all of you. We (Me and my Fiancé) are currently planning our wedding and after reading this article we are certainly going with a "no cameras" ceremony. Our photographer does good work and I don't want a random guest getting in the way of her/her assistant and ruining their work.

Without this article I probably would of never thought of this!!!

Thanks for posting

I just don't understand walking around taking pics with an ipad in general. I went to a wedding as a guest and snagged this (old) picture.

the guy in the background AND his wife were using ipads to take pics. The only reason why the picture became b/w was because the guy in the back had a ipad case that was colored the brightest red i have ever seen

Some should start a website that aggregates all these people snapping photos with an iPad and publicly shame them.

Interesting article. I shot a wedding a couple of months ago where the pastor introduced me as the "official photographer" and ask that everyone turn off their cell phones and refrain from taking pictures.

At least 5 people ignored his "refrain from taking pictures" request. It was a minor inconvenience that I worked around and things worked out in the end. My issue is the gall that some folks have when it comes to things like this. Such is life :-).
