What a great outcome Rion! Seeing your before and after gives me hope that I might be able to revive some images that didn't quite turn out as expected from a sunset I captured a few months ago. Thanks for sharing!

Picked up a 6D with 24-105mm ƒ4L USM lens kit today :) here's a wee push from the dark sides of this shot, quite happy with the results :D

Been a while since I've contributed, so another B+W conversion for me,
The photo as imported

IMAGE: http://imageshack.us/a/img824/9376/025a0472before.jpg

General settings and B+W colour settings
IMAGE: http://imageshack.us/a/img33/4240/generalgx.jpg

There are 3 GND's applied to the sky, all settings are visible, but I've only shown one GND filter. They are all in the same place at pretty much the same angle. How harsh the transition is the biggest difference that you cant see.
IMAGE: http://imageshack.us/a/img11/3148/gnds2.jpg

There are two uses of the brush, I've shown one (settings on the top), the other is just the hills in the distance (settings on the bottom). Yes I know some of those settings a re a bit contradictory, but I was just kinda winging it to see how it would come out!
IMAGE: http://imageshack.us/a/img196/9751/brushstrokes.jpg

Then take to photoshop for sharpening (which was difficult due to the clouds!)

This would be much harder to pull off with a Jpeg. And would definitely take much longer.

Nice conversion.

If he had read the intro (post# 1) .... just posting those two pictures is utterly useless for the topic of this thread.

All I can say is WOW! Was this an HDR composite? I have a long way to go before I think I can accomplish something like this.
