My first severe weather stuff, and first time lapse. I'm here in OKC covering the softball world series. Last night was crazy as they evacuated everyone in the hotel to the basement. I knew very bad storms were going to form, so I set up a time lapse in my hotel window an hour or so before we had to leave. The window faces dead west, luckily.

Here's the time lapse: http://youtu.be/yC1Xea8Kyfo (external link)

Set-up (propped up on a shoe in the window):

Excellent work Brennan, very nice shots...funny we ended up seeing eachother out there and not even know it till after.

As some of you may know, Tim Samaras (a renowned storm chaser), his son, a photographer and another chaser named Carl Young were killed by Friday's tornado. From what I understand they were last known to be just north of where myself and my chase partner managed to escape the tornado. The northward turn of the tornado helped save our butts, while apparently trapping Tim Samaras and his crew. If that is accurate, BJontzPhotography's first photo and a couple of mine more than likely show the wedge tornado as it overtook the crew. RIP to such great men....

I have heard, and I am in so much shock. I wanted to meet him so bad. He was a true hero of science, and it is untold how many lives he has saved by his scientific advances. I would have loved more than anything to help him with his lightning mission. RIP, to one of the greatest storm chasers ever, and a true hero.

I hope they have video on their truck of the tornado, and their last moments. I wasn't there, but apparently something happened (a sudden turn or something) to trap all these chasers.

I wonder if the video editors on The Titanic ever went, "Sorry, I can't right now. I'm busy synching the Titanic..."

Wow! great shot! Scary but beautiful .I was watching the storm attributes, on Discovery chasers map, this supercell was almost 60,000ft high . Be careful out there,I understand one of the chasing teams end up in a tragic accident.

I shot these on a very windy ferry crossing early this year,I was using 400 5.6 on a 60D,even when braced by the boat I could only just hold the camera in the wind(outside top deck, all other decks were closed)it was a true spray and pray, ened up with a few good ones.

I know this isnt a video forum but figured this is relevant. The tornado that myself and POTN member BJontzPhotography photographed (and myself and my chase partner were overtaken by) was upgraded today to an EF-5 (the highest tornado rating on a scale of 1-5, 5 being the strongest) with 296MPH winds and a width of 2.6 miles at its widest; this makes it the largest tornado ever recorded on Earth...
