This guide helped me a lot to get started while I was there: http://www.racetours.co.uk …%20where%20to%20watch.htm (external link)

Just find a map with the names of the turns, corners, and follow-through sections to go along with this article.

Hi colintf

Went to the N24 this year and did a blog of my experience and places to photograph from, as well as lessons learnt. It was the experience of a lifetime. Please find below the links. If you need more information please let me know. Have also included my camera and lens settings. Shot the race with a Canon 5DIII, 300 f2.8L IS II (and 1.4x or 2x extenders III) and 50mm 1.2L from spectator areas, except for the pits where was lucky enough to borrow a pass for the night qualifying.

Depending on where you are, you could get away with a 70-200, especially in the GP circuit part of the track. However, for the Nordschleife part of the track the biggest issue is finding vantage points to shoot over, around, or through the catch fencing, thats why the 300mm and extenders worked well to give me the reach so i could step away from the catch fencing.

Another thing to bear in mind is to wear clothing for the different weather conditions, since in one day it can be cool, rain, sunny, and hot (layers of clothing are best). Also, wear comfortable shoes that are water-proof, since their will be alot of mud to walk through. I shot alot in the rain, and found the OpTech USA rain cover protected my gear well (in fact, the gear was dry, the issue was that i was getting more wet and cold).

Hope this is helpful. I'll be posting more photos from my trip to the N24 shortly. Also, included a link to my blog page where I have links to over websites for places to watch and photograph the N24 (as well as other races).

Regards

David
