Yes I know a lot of photographers hate to take their material with them for a beach holiday and use a compactcam.

Others (like I) like to take the best pics as possible of my young daughter playing in the swimmingpool, my wife, the hotel and surroundings, city, market, animation... Nice memories afterwards, printed album with great pics and flattering comments on Facebook. But also for movie-capturing offcourse.

Last year I took my 15 fisheye (compact) 35L (compact fast) 70-200 II (versatiity for shots under the parasol) with me.
Any other photographers like me that take reasonable material with them for a beach holiday and what do you take with you ?

Sony A7 III | Metabones V | Canon 16-35 F4 L | 70-200 2.8L II

Modifiers: 60cm Collapsible Silver Beautydish + grid | Godox 120cm Octagon softbox + grid + Speedlite Flash bender

24-70 II and 70-200 II. Between the two, I don't miss any shots. Rarely I also take my 85L, but with that lens being non weather sealed and slow focusing, it doesn't get to be used a lot.

I am like that too.

I am going on a Mexican cruise (so obviously, beaches) with family next month, and I intend to pack my camera bag with 15 FE for novelty, 16-35 II for wide angle shots, 85 II (or 50L) for shallow DOF portraits, and 70-200 II for everything else.

No need to be shy. :-)

We go to the Outer Banks for three weeks every year and I always take my camera. What's the point of having it if I don't get to use it when I'm on vacation? This summer I'll be taking my 7D and 70-200 f4 IS for use on the beach (dogs and kid in the water, beach bird life), plus a point and shoot (Canon 230 SX) for snapshots if we go out (e.g. to play crazy golf). I might also put my 24-105 in the bag; I haven't decided yet.

Obviously I'm careful on the beach. I don't take the camera out on very windy days, store it in a bag hung from the parasol (not on the sand), and don't go near the water with it. In the past I've taken my Canon 55-250, but I'd like to try the faster focusing of the 70-200 this year.

I couldn't get pics like these with a point and shoot.

If I don't just take my S95, then my 24-105 or S35 depending on how much I care about versatility that day.

I'm with you there.
This summer I'm going to try and just take the awesome little Fuji out on a day to day basis (but I'll have the big stuff back at the apartment if I fancy doing any timelapses or specific landscapes etc)

I actually bought a 40mm pancake for those "hide my 5D in my pocket moments" like going out for a meal and such. Nice little lens, no complaints. Otherwsie i am looking at taking 17-40 and 28-300 on the next family trip. 17-40 and 24-105 and 100-400 on last trip was OK, but being able to just have one lens whilst on the beach appeals to me, family shots are normally printed at 18x12 cm anyway so L sharp is not and issue.

We own a condo in Myrtle Beach, and visit several times per year. My kit will vary depending on what we have planned for that particular trip. Last time I brought the 5D3 & 7D, plus 17-40L, 100-400L and 40mm pancake. We were visiting a state park well known for its birds, so I wanted the reach of the 7D + 100-400L.

On the previous trip, I took the 5D3, 24-105L, 70-200 f/4 IS L and 50mm f/1.4, since no birding outing was planned.

What do you think of the 28-300?

I was thinking it would be a great travel lens, just bring along an UWA and fast prime and you'd be set for just about anything and it would cover most things so you'd hardly need to do any lens swaps. From the I've seen the IQ looks pretty good for a super zoom, and the fact that it can take the place for the most part of a 24-70/105 and 70-300 combo the cost seems to the only deterrent. Maybe if I start travelling a lot again I'll have to pick one of these up, at least for the destinations that keeping gear to min is important(this lens would have been great when I hiked the Inca trail).

haha yup,
when I was in Florida back in February, I used the X100 95% of the time.
only time I used the 5DII + 17-40 was to shoot the fireworks in Disneyworld

anyway, my travel gear right now is
P67 w/ 55mm, 105mm
X100s w/ WCL-X100
M6 w/ 50mm
5DII w/ 17-40L

if I'm looking to shoot wildlife, I might bring out the 100-400L
