k, i have a dumb question about some of these pics. I understand that to get the smooth flowing white water from the falls you need a longer exposure. A lot of these shots look like they are taken in some decent daylight. Is everyone using ND filters so they can use a slower shutter speed in the daylight?

Ex. below this looks amazing, but it looks pretty bright out. i wouldn't think you'd be able to take a long enough exposure to get the water to look that good without blowing the image out

Yes ND filters are used as are very small apertures. Also the one you posted is deep in a forest and so is shaded. I would also bet there may have been some clouds out that day.

Thanks Dave. Yeah, shame about Navajo Falls. The main attraction, Havasu Falls, was also affected by the floods...its been reduced from two water chutes to a single chute. I was lucky enough to spend four days camping in the canyon the season prior to the flooding. Not sure if they're still up, but you can find Havasu flooding on youtube. Here's a shot of Havasu Falls before the floods (and yeah, that's the actual color of the water):
