Thanks. I have an Iphone, can you recommend a nine app(s)? Unfortunately, I live in a city, and there is a big mall with VERY heavy light pollution like 2 miles from me. There is an open space, something like a field with no light at all, but close to the mall I was talking about.

Star Walk and Sky Guide are two very useful star gazing apps. I currently use Sky Guide, but I used Star Walk and both are excellent.

I've been away from POTN for a while, and on my return found this thread and am really impressed with all the great posts! Looking forward to more great shots.

Managed to get to the location and the clouds came :( typical...

25,600 ISO test shot, using the Canon 10-22mm ƒ3.5-4.5 USM lens :D best viewed at 100%, noise isn't that bad for 25,600 ISO!!!

Love it :)

I was let out again tonight :D can't go far though, 20 mins drive, 30 mins shooting then 20 back home again.
There's a couple more shots after the click, didn't spend much time editing them, just wanted to get them online for now

beautiful image Brett!!!

One question: for the sky (the milky way) do you guys use a single exposure, or you're stacking images?

I tend to just use single exposures. If the skies are sufficiently dark, I've found I don't need to do any stacking. Besides, stacking with complex foreground elements (trees, etc) are a PITA - so I generally avoid the extra work if I can.

What Todd said. If you have at least an f/2.8 lens and a camera that can cleanly shoot ISO 6400, you're golden. There are some specific processing steps to really bring the data in the image out, but that combination of settings is really all you need. ISO 3200 will suffice most of the time too.
