Sharpness wise no, but the 200L will look like it's about 4 stops more blurrier background than the 135L due to the impact of the focal length

Like you put a seemless paper behind.:) Once I get funds I am going to pick 200mm f2 unless 135mm f1.8 OS comes up.

I might also get Sigma 35 + 135L instead of this and maybe be happy with them.

If you do, please post your results.

Some old test shots from the 200L to show off the background blur!:

Those are amazing shots. Were they all shot wide open? Also, did you have to do a lot in PP?

Funny, reading this thread I thought you changed your mind. I don't think you will be disappointed. Good luck.

What's the worst that can happen? I can use the lens for a year and sell it at a $500 loss (amazon is already giving a $250 cashback, so it's even less than that). These lenses hold their value more than my savings account does (no kidding).

Just pulled the trigger on 200L. I also got Sigma 35, if all the reviews are true, I'll sell my 35L and probably return a small profit. Anyways, once the lens(es) arrive, I'll create a separate thread and post some pictures. I'm planning to do a proper comparison with as many pictures and tests as possible, something that I haven't seen in any of the photography forums.

Got my 200L yesterday. I will post a proper comparison and my feedback in a separate thread, but I just wanted to say WOW. This thing is just amazing. Even the packaging was so intimidating and with the hood it looks like an anti-tank missile launcher!:) That being said, my initial, extremely unscientific/rushed, test against the 70-200 IS II shows, as expected, the 200L being a lot sharper than the zoom. There is a massive difference that can easily be seen without going 100% crop when F2.0 is compared against F2.8 and if you were to go crop AND also go F2.8 vs F2.8, you see an even bigger difference.

The only downside I can say is the IS is a lot LOUDER with this lens than anything else I have ever seen. I know 5d3 has an issue with this particular lens, but mine, based on the date code, does not fall under that category (it's a 3 month old lens produced in March), so I know it's not that particular issue. I guess it's the nature of the beast.

The weight is a non issue with black rapid sport strap. I carried it around for 3 hours yesterday and felt completely fine.

Just waiting for my Don Zack cap to arrive at this point. Separate thread with details will follow, so stay tuned everyone!:)

I know I keep bringing this thread up, and yes as I promised I will write a proper review/comparison and start a new thread, but I am having so much fun with this lens that I don't find the time to do that (yet)!:)

I just tried the 1.4x and 2.0x extenders today (Mk3) and I have to say that 2.0 is very impressive. 1.4 is obviously a lot sharper, but it just gives me 280, not so much of a difference. With 2.0, I get 400mm and the focus is much faster than I expected (I wouldn't even be able to say that I have an extender on). It tracks on AI Servo quite well and interestingly enough, I get very decent shots wide open F4 and much sharper stepping it down to F5.6. I was a bit disappointed though to find out you cannot stack the MK3 extenders, but even still, I think 2.0x is my next purchase.

That being said, here is the first comparison shot between the zoom and the prime. I am going to do a lot more of these, but this should give you guys an idea. Warning though, people with the zoom is not going to feel better after seeing this!:)

I have other shots where I stopped the prime down to 2.8 and the difference is even more obvious there.

How about shooting and posting a set of images that are not test images but photos of the subjects you like to shoot? I'd love to see your work with the new lens. :D

Well this is 70-200 IS II vs 200 2.0 thread. What you are asking for will also happen but most likely it will belong to the lens samples thread for this particular lens.

Where was the focus? Would be nice to post full frame shot from either lens and then 100% crops from both from center and corners. Both lenses on a tripod with IS off, timer, you know the routine. I will also focus using LV. You zoom don't look good. I know I don't have 200L f but I did tests with 300mm f2.8 IS I and zoom was as good at that lens at f2.8.
