Hey there, Kas & Jeff!

Really interesting shots :D
Especially "Dent" and "Slaughter" from Jeff.
And Kas, was that bird following you around?
A bit spooky!!!

Thanks so much for adding....

Thanks Simon, for the warm welcome! The robin wasn't following me, even though it seems that way! :D I tend to really like wildlife in my cemetery shots - feels a bit "circle of life" to me...

Here is another I took last year at the Cemetery at Fort Donelson National Battlefield, Dover, TN

Hey Kas,

You're welcome :-)
And I like your "circle of life" feelings there....very apt!

What a classic!
Yep, isn't lovely that kids really have no idea whatsoever about the 'darker' aspects of this thing called "life".

Gotta love 'em :-)

Regards to all,

Simon

Gracie

What a delightfully detailed statue, Andy.
Thanks for posting.
Do you know the story behind this?

Oh, and I notice you used your 40D....that, and the 30D (which I owned and loved until last year) had great APS-C sensors, if you knew what you were doing!

Well done you!!

Regards,

Simon :D

Hello Simon, yes it is quite a beautiful statue and it is life sized of her. Here is some info on her explained far better than I could have.

My 40D has been a real good trooper for me,dosent get used all that much but when I am out on a shoot it pays to have another setup with , beats the heck out of constantly changing lenses. Pretty funny about knowing what we were doing..... ..sometimes I still wonder :lol:

Hey Andy,

Thanks so much for the link to Gracie's story.

It's always the pre-mature deaths of children which, without fail, bring a lump to my throat....and this story is no different.

So glad pneumonia is rarely fatal anymore.

Oh, and about the 40D (and 30D), I do think Canon got those right, as regards the pixel density within the APS-C format.

And although my 30D has gone to a new home, I never had any reason to complain about it as opposed to me!

Two brothers (I think), American Civil War.
A long and hard-to-read inscription, but it tells a story, so I've done my best to transcribe it.

In memory of / Benj[ami]n B. Doughty Jr
a private in Company G 4th Regiment New Jersey Volunteers
who died near Mechanicsville Virginia / June 7th 1862 / in the 2_(?) year of his age.

In memory of / Dan[Ie]l C. Doughty
a private in Company B(E?) 12th Regiment New Jersey Volunteers
was wounded at Cold Harbor Virginia / and from other injuries sustained
while in the Army(?) died at home / March 12th 1866 / in the 22d year of his age.

Both were ardent patriots and willingly offered / their lives in the defense of their Country.

Decorum est pro patria mori [It is right to die for your country (or: homeland, fatherland)]

(I do not know the meaning of the illustration at the top.)

Thanks for adding.

The symbol at the top looks to me, like two crossed penants.
Perhaps related to the military?

No matter what, a touching addition to thread.

Regards to all,

Simon
