I noticed that canonpricewatch is pushing a new seller, TekShop. They have a great price on a gray market Tamron 24-70 VC ($939) that I am thinking about.

Unfortunately, I've never heard a thing about these guys before, and they are unmentioned on resellerratings. Has anyone ever dealt with this store?

Alternately, Camera Canada is selling the same lens for $1189 plus shipping - which may be worth it for the warranty.

(Disclosure: CanonPriceWatch is now affiliated with TekShop; however, we only list stores that we wouldn't hesitate to recommend friends & family to shop at, and very clearly note that they sell imported/grey-market.)

We just started listing TekShop this week; they're a Canadian electronics reseller who recently started selling into the US market. I haven't personally experienced buying from their US operation but buying from their Canadian operation was quite smooth. Their prices were quite good, so we decided to list them to give more options (especially with Canon's new pricing policies). We've been listing their Canadian stores on our Canadian site for over a year now -- I've heard no complaints. If something went badly, I would normally hear about it from my users.

Non-US stock, so products shipped from overseas like Hong Kong. Usually comes with warranty from country of origin so not covered by Canon USA

The question is how does Tamron USA/Can deal with grey market items? Will they warranty and service them?

Officially ...

"IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Tamron USA, Inc., or its authorized agents, will not repair any product that is not an officially imported product and sold through an authorized Tamron USA dealer. In other words, there will be no authorized repair service under any circumstance for gray market products. In such a case, the user must return the product to the dealer at which it was purchased for unauthorized repair service."

Unofficially, will they do it anyway? I guess we would need to have a gray-market Tamron owner answer that question. And whether the USA Tamron warranty worth the $200-$300 difference in price is up to each buyer - but that is a huge discount from the U.S. MSRP.
