It's a box that they put in values to compensate for delays when using strobes with remotes. I'm pretty sure it's for sports illustrated.

I'm pretty sure that's a Flash Wizard system. Rumor has it when they went out of business NBAE/Getty/SI bought all of the remaining units.

SI used it for 18 remote cameras synced to different strobes in the 2009 Finals.

Yep - flash wizards
I believe they have been replaced by the PocketWizard Multimax units - but I believe the old flash wizards are preferred by the guys using them
