I'm thinking about getting the G1X and wonder if there is a new version coming that any one knows about?

I've been holding off for news as well. Love the large sensor. Not feeling the focus speed. I'm even hoping for a firmware update.

Sure. The new Canon G5X Mk IV will be out in two weeks with a 50MP Full Frame sensor and an effective 10mm-500mm zoom with a constant f/1.2 throughout the range. It offers an unprecedented 90-point AF system with auto-composition correction and many other cool features.

But will it fit in a pocket?

The rumor is it'll retail at $399

OK, I guess that was probably a stupid question but I really was serious about any information about an updated camera.

It wasn't a stupid question Jeff, but it did get you a fair share of useless replies.

I'm interested what, if anything, Canon will do with this camera as well. I think there is a great opportunity for a fixed-lens camera with zoom that delivers the IQ of the G1X but that is a bit more robust operationally and provides a better VF option. And I think if Canon delivered that they could get away with what they were asking for the G1X at launch and then some.

I hope we hear something soon.

I reckon Canon will wait a bit longer and judge the consumer market response of the G15 and Eos-M.
There is not really a camera out there with a good fixed zoom lens/sensor combination with excellent noise control with great IQ, so I think Canon will update it but not in the short term.
For whats its worth the next version I reckon won,t be major changes and can see the only improvements will be the read/wtite to the processor and perhaps a new hybrid focus system, also extended battery life.
If they do that I think they would still get a growing no of users coming on board to the G1x.
At the end of the day people want noise free great IQ images which the G1x offers.

A faster lens f/2-f/4 and ttl flash in manual mode would be nice to have. I'm pretty happy with everything else.

Much like how the new 2.0.2 firmware update (yet to be released here) infused a bit of urgency into the EOS-M's focusing system, I'm really hoping that there'll be an update coming for the G1X as well.

I reckon they will do a firmware update shortly to extend the consumer life of the G1x classic version.
Its interesting that Fuji and Panasonic are now looking at reducing the compact models at the lower end and concentrating on the higher end stuff, apparently this is due to the advancement of image quality now coming from smartphones.
The higher end, Leica have joined the club with a fixed zoom lens, problem, is that it is 4x the price of a G1x. So the canon is still great value for money against any other manufacturer.

I doubt they will have a new version I think they will focus on the EOS-M but I think they should keep it and dump the G15.
