Ugh. Poor bus management between the video and audio cards, which is pretty common on integrated video. Drives me bonkers.

I agree 1000%! The look, the angle, that beautiful deep blue spinner. Nice. And I also liked the first one converted to B&W.

Dang, I never had a hot co-pilot like that, though. :p

Soooo...Hypothetical for you guys...

If the local camera store and print lab asked you if they could print something of yours for their own use, would you let them? They want to print one of your pics to hang loud and proud on the wall in the store for a while. They like to rotate stock from time to time, and when they rotate your pic out, you get to keep the print.

Would you do it?

This is the second time they've asked me...I'm flattered, and said "knock yourself out!"...But I know that a lot of people would be asking for licensing fees/whatever.

What say you 60D ers?

It IS a pretty damn good feeling when the camera store wants YOUR stuff on their wall...So maybe I'm just a sucker.

This is kind of the way I thought it operated too. But after snooping around online a bit, I'm not quite so sure that that's always the case.

My first destop ran Win98se, had 128mb of RAM initially and win98 didn't do that good of a job managing RAM. It also had a red led on the front of the case that would flicker on when data was being written to or from the HDD. I was only working with 2.1MP jpegs at the time but after a few hours it wasn't uncommon to see that red led flickering on a regular basis. Restarting the computer, which would free up RAM, would make things run better for another few hours.

I later added another 512mb of RAM and I don't know that everything ran consistently faster, but I didn't hear, or see, the HDD clattering around as much.

My current WinXP machine also has a red light on the front of the case to indicate drive usage but it's never worked since day one. But since I can watch the amount of free RAM in my tool tray I don't really worry about it too much. And I can't imagine that adding another 2gb of RAM (for a total of 4gb) is going to make anything run faster. At least not under the typical workload that it currently sees.

So here's my best guess. If your editing requires frequent usage usage of virtual memory then a faster HDD is better than a slower HDD. But it's got be a lot of extra wear and tear on the drive. So adding more RAM seems like the better way to go, to maybe pick up some speed and give your HDD more "rest" time. If you have enough RAM already so that you're not using virtual memory very much, but you still want to speed things up, then you're going to need a faster processor or some other change in hardware or operating system.

Like I said, this is just my best guess based on the little I know about how all this stuff works, or doesn't work, together. If somebody else knows the real story about all this, please feel free to point out where I've gotten off track. Then I can stop worrying about it, 'cuz this kind of thinking makes my brain hurt!

Virtual Memory or swap kicks in when the machine is out of RAM, it will basically create a file on the HDD that is used to store the temporary program data. That file access is much slower than RAM. If you have an SSD it can make it much less painful to have a swap file going, however it can wear out the SSD faster.

Do they give you credit? I would ask them if it was OK if they had a little placard or something with your contact info, if you are interested in generating any business. If not, then I'd let them do it and then keep the print!

My contact info is on the back of it.

FYI...for ten bucks or so you can have a self-inking rubber stamp with your email or website on it...stamp your name all day on anything! Different than passing out business cards.
