I can't see LR replacing Photoshop. From a business point of view it would be silly for Adobe to even consider this unless they bring the price point of LR way up. Many photographers get by with just LR but that really boils down to a personal choice. I do so much of a mix of images along with text and graphics that this wouldn't work for me. I also think that we will see LR in the CC mix in the not too distant future. I think that Adobe left it out to appease all the push back that they were receiving about CC. I'm surprised that Adobe has put as much functionality into LR as they have. It has to have cost them some Photoshop sales.

My life is like one big RAW file....way too much post processing needed.

im a big lightroom advocate, but it cant hold a torch to PS went it comes to creating a finely tuned masterpiece. that said Photoshop, when you need to edit many many images, sucks. I'll fast process as many as i can in LR but a select few get reserved for special treatment in PS.

I use LR 99.9 percent of the time. I don't work with layers, so Lightroom works for me. The only time I use PS is if I use the "merge to HDR" function.

Why would LR replace PS. They are both owned by the same company...............Job security

Both are great tools and do great jobs at different things. LR is geared more towards the portrait type crowd while PS is for those that like to make stuff better.

I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy it!!

Will the Corvette ever replace the Suburban? When you have to haul the goods, PS is necessary.

Layers, layers, layers.

ETA: I rarely use PS, but it'll be nearly impossible to eliminate. For those who rarely use it, perhaps enough features will venture over to LR, but PS is too powerful to be eradicated.

This^^

When you need a selection or adjustment layer, you really need them and not much else will do the job. Lightroom is great, but it's still just a RAW processor. Not all photographers need more, but when you do, LR won't do the job. If they stick to their roots of never altering a pixel, then it's never going to supersede PS or Elements when an image needs to go beyond that capability.

As much as I like PS it has so much more capability than LR. But LR really streamlines things for the photographer. It took me awhile to convert to using LR for photos. Its a little different way of approaching the same goals. I talk to some fellow photographers who refuse to acknowledge LR as being anyting more than a weak gimmick of PS. I tell them something about LR and sometimes they are intrigued... maybe just a little.

After upgrading to Lightroom 5, I hardly use Photoshop CS5 (but it's always there if I ever need it).

The fine print: I use a customized PictureStyle, DPP, and Nik Collection as part of my workflow.

OnOne Photo Suite also adds layering capability and a lot of PS tools into Lightroom as a plugin. The Suite also has a terrific masking plugin.
