I just picked up this camera a few hours ago. Coming from a DSLR hobby, which I've since gotten out of, I'm very pleased! :D

That's odd. I didn't see any wearing Canon straps.

I only brought my 60D on the days my son showed his pigs (Tuesday and Thursday), I used my G15 the rest of the week. No strap for me. I did notice a lot of parents shooting with Nikon, but the photographer used two Canon's. :)

We saw 4-H lambs auctioned on Sunday. It was very crowded and I didn't get any shots. I would have liked more livestock photos, but the animals that were awake didn't usually make good poses soon enough. There was only so much time to spend in the large-animal area.

We purchased one of the lambs, my first time purchasing. We tear down all the decorations the day before auction, so the barn is really bare on the last day. I have some cute shots of the kids showing their animals, but I still need to download a bunch of pictures from both cameras and edit all of them.
Here is one of my boy with his pigs. Not a great picture, but I like it.

Taken with the G15
Please forgive the oakey tank top. It was 100 plus that week and he likes those ugly sleeveless shirts.

Then do you have the lamb slaughtered and butchered, or keep it for breeding, or what? Prices I heard at the lamb auction were so high ($24 per pound, and presumably that was on the hoof) that the cost of any resulting meat would be ridiculous.

Here's a fancy rooster from the small-animals exhibit. Photo added to justify chatting about the fair. This is a photo thread, after all.

Nice rooster.
I purchased the lamb as resale, because I don't eat lamb. If you purchase as custom you get a few choices of butchers to send to and you are responsible for paying the butcher when you pick up your meat. The ones you saw going for 24.00 a pound are the supreme champion ones, and some of the kids that are aging out of their clubs will get that. I purchased mine for 6.00 a pound and that is a little higher then normal, but anything over market value is a tax write off. Everyone that comes is supporting the kids and the future of 4-H and FFA. Most of the kids can pay for college after spending years raising animals.

And....because this is a photo thread.
Here is a picture of the auction. I was taking a test shot so I could adjust my setting, but I liked the action in this.

Sorry for the loss of quality, I can't downsize with good results.

So that's what "custom" means. The auctioneer identified some sales as custom. I didn't know what he meant and still don't know how he could tell.

They don't butcher the supreme champion lambs, do they? Wouldn't those go to a sheep rancher with an interest in breeding?

That rooster was very noisy. He kept crowing in midafternoon, must have had jet lag because it was nowhere near sunrise.
