wow this is beautiful. Is it a wild bird Mark or captive?

I went out on the heath this morning as I'd spied a few pyramid orchids in the long grasses. They're quite rare I think.
Anyway this is probably the best shot I got, with hoverfly. I was using my 50mm f1.4 with an extension tube.

then I spied the buzzard overhead, and got about 100 shots of a crow vs buzzard fight mid air!

Talking of Raptors.

I had the privilege of seeing a Buzzard oh so close.............last night on the way home at an A48 junction in South Wales I spotted the Buzzard atop one of the lampposts and as the traffic slowed it swooped down and landed approx. 15feet away on the grass verge but in the brief few seconds I could watch it, it took off but with nothing obvious in in talons. It was just great to see it doing it thing :D

Hey gang - survived Canada, and ended up just taking the 5d mkiii after a dozen test shots and . . . . result! what a fantastic piece of kit it is, as and when my mk4 dies I will be replacing it with another mkiii for sure.

REALLY tricky to pick a few favourites but here's a go:
First some of the locals

HUGE Otter, just caught a fish and I managed a shot or two before it saw me and dived in again.
#1 - 5D mkiii / 70-200mm 2.8 mkii, 1/500, f/5, iso 100, 200mm
QUOTED IMAGE

#2 - 5D mkiii / 70-200mm 2.8 mkii, 1/500, f/3.2, iso 250, 200mm
QUOTED IMAGE

#3 - 5D mkiii / 70-200mm 2.8 mkii, 1/500, f/3.5, iso 100, 175mm
QUOTED IMAGE

#4 - 5D mkiii / 70-200mm 2.8 mkii, 1/500, f/2.8, iso 100, 185mm - didn't know it was just a Garter snake so stayed back a bit
QUOTED IMAGE

#5 - 5D mkiii / 300mm 2.8 mkii, 1/1000, f/3.5, iso 100, 300mm. Bald Eagle Heavy crop but it was one of the closest I got

#6 - 5D mkiii / 70-200mm 2.8 mkii, 1/500, f/2.8, iso 3200, 200mm. Well into the forest hence the iso up to 3200, everyone said these were everywhere. . . . this was the only one we saw all fortnight (other than roadkill)

Nothing too exciting BUT I'm happy with them - although some better Eagle shots would have been nice, again - we were told they are everywhere and we will see loads. . . . they forgot about the 'anti wildlife cream' I must have been wearing.

CONT. . .

See below ;)

CONT. . .
Not really a landscape type of guy but whilst in Canada I had to try didn't I? well it would be rude not to.

PLEASE - honest opinions and critique on these as I found it quite a challenge to try and capture what 'I' saw.

Handheld as always with the 5D mkiii

#1 - 70-200mm 2.8 mkii, 1/1000, f/5.6, iso 100, 70mm. Duffy Lake, and a shame the wind was playing on the water
QUOTED IMAGE

#2 - 70-200mm 2.8 mkii, 1/500, f/11, iso 100, 95mm. Quick layby shot between Whistler and Vancouver
QUOTED IMAGE

#3 - 70-200mm 2.8 mkii, 1/500, f/5, iso 100, 190mm. Old wood yard at Squamish
QUOTED IMAGE

#4 - 300mm 2.8 mkii, 1/320, f/5.6, iso 100, 300mm. Pacific Rim from Ucluelet beach, 6 stitch pano (can't show it any larger, sorry) - and who said you cant do a panorama with a 300 telephoto lens lol
QUOTED IMAGE

#5 - 300mm 2.8 mkii, 1/500, f/8, iso 100, 300mm. Don't know if you would class this as a 'landscape' - very minimal and very 'grey' but something about this one simple shot that I really love and it's going on canvas as soon as I've saved up a bit.

#6 - 24-105, 1/250, f/11, iso 100, 40mm. Again not sure if this is classed as 'landscape'. laid down amongst the drift wood to get this one and really quite pleased with the result (took half a dozen attempts to get what I thought was right)

As I said - any and all comments and critique gratefully received. Thanks for looking, and apologies for such a heavy 'photofest'

Entire gallery is HERE (external link) if you have some time to waste.

Hi David

Sorry almost missed these crackers in the rush of catching up with all the pages since I was away in South Wales!

Look like you had a great holiday in an area as mentioned we have spoken about going for ages. If it OK I will PM you with a few questions in regard to locations & hotels?

:D

Been out of the loop with a tremendous amount of work and back-to-back family/friend visits. Did get out to Wimbledon on Saturday (it is a 15-minute walk from our house after all). Saw some good tennis on the outer courts before a departing person gave us his Centre Court ticket, so we got to see Djokovic and Serena. Not bad for £14!

Outer court action:
