Dammit, bought one a week too early. But I guess I could send it in anyhow and hope for the best ...

Camera land sells them all day long for 1099 on eBay. And they are an authorized dealer.

I bought my lens from Cameraland. Perhaps they advertise them as "open box" in order to sell them under MSRP, and perhaps they don't qualify for the rebate because of that. But they told me the lens I was sent was brand new never opened, and it certainly looked like that when I got it.

How do you like the Tamron 24-70 with 7D?
Those vignetting on FF would be gone on cropper! Cleannnnn

I am quite happy with it so far. No AFMA adjustment needed, sharp at all focal lengths except some softness / loss of contrast at 70mm f/2.8 (stopping down to f/3.2 helps quite a bit). Just a bit larger and heavier than the 24-105L, significantly smaller and a bit lighter than the Canon 24-70 "brick".

The Canon 2.8 24-70s may have equal to slightly better IQ, but IMHO the VC of the Tamron more than compensates for that. I shoot a lot of indoor low light shots, and I don't always want to use a flash - in these cases the Tamron with VC is a clear winner.

I wish there was a shop in my area where I could try this one out.. I might consider it as an even swap for my Canon MkI

Check these guys out: aperturent.com a 3-day rental is $43 (w/o insurance), not sure how they compare to other places pricewise though, they are local to me so I have not looked into other options. I'm very tempted to try one out soon!
