Hello guys,

I hope this question fits in the thread.
Would you recommend this lens over Canon 70-200 f4 NON IS ?
I sold my 55-250IS because i wanted something sharper and faster but after that I got canon's 28 1.8 and 85 1.8 primes (i love them) and now I can't really afford 70-200 f2.8 lenses and not sure if I can justify spending that money on a hobby. I also don't think going back to 55-250 would be an option.

I'm looking for a longer lens to use for motorsports and sometimes portrait photography. Here where I live a used 70-200 f4 non IS costs around the same as new Tamron 70-300VC.

Which one would you get? :)

I don't know where you live but in the US the Canon cost $630 and the Tamron $350 so to me it's an easy decision. The Tamron is a hell of a deal at that price. I think it's a real gem for what it costs.

If you can track the subject and push the shutter button at the best moment, the Tamron lens will correctly capture the desired image, as shown above. There is no reason to be insecure about the lens.

A used 70-200 f4 costs about the same as a new Tamron :) Sure, new Canon is almost twice the price but you can get a solid used copy.

Canon's AF and glass quality is great but the Tamron has more reach and VC. I'm very torn between the two.

I sold my 70-200 F4 L IS ($900), in favor of Tamron 70-300 VC ($350)+ extra cash . Never regretted . Very difficult to differentiate IQ between the two. VC is fantastic.

Just bought this lens and thought i would try it out on a visit to a wildlife park, seems a great lens for the money - the VC is very good.

Sorry about that. I missed the part where you were looking at a used Canon, not new.

The RAW images had a very slight sharpening applied before converting to JPG, other than that they are pretty much how they were taken.

Wandered down to the local level crossing the other evening to see what was passing by.

Mostly trains, as it turns out.
