Thanks..Whichever you think will show the unique color and sharpness of the Foveon sensor. I understand it is not better for everything but has it's strengths.

I have both DP1 and DP2s. DP2 is used most of the time because the lens is faster and I like the normal FL better.

They're quirky cameras. You can AF ok in good light on static subjects. If it's anything less than an overcast day, they can't lock focus. But they have an uncoupled rangefinder which kind of makes up for it in a smena fashion. You can't track motion. You can't change lenses. ISO800 and up is very noisy. I usually convert high ISO to BW and it looks like pushed film. The battery lasts 50 shots on a good day.

I don't know how they compare to current cameras in canon lineup, but the dynamic range is better than 20d and 30d. I feel I can push the raw files much further from this cam. And it's very compact.

I got a DP1 for 250 bucks years ago and DP2 was around 400 later. If you can work around the limitations of the interface, the pictures are great.

In terms of color and dynamic range, I find using grad filters less and less because I can take one exposure for the sky detail and process everything else to have saturated color. At some point with the "fill light" slider pulled too far the file starts looking like HDR and I pull it back. But the detail is there. I've only gotten similar tonality with film.

I never made direct comparisons, but with canon's earlier generation cameras I was not able to get detail in both clouds and shadows.

Very nice...it does have a HDR look to it. Thanks for sharing the picture and the explaination. Hopefully I find a deal that makes it worth trying in the future.

If you get one, it'll take a while to get used to raw processing. The files look dull and unsaturated because of the higher dynamic range. So it takes a while to get used to getting the white point and the black point where you want them. You obviously don't have to push saturation as far as I did, but the data is there to play with.

For contrasty scenes the camera shines.

Little off topic but able to share any picture samples shot with your DP1? Would love to see some real world samples....I have often thought of buying one but it is a large investment to play with when I am very happy with the results from my Canon equipment.

I bought a DP1 Merrill last December and a DP3 Merrill a few weeks ago. I've mostly done landscapes with them and these cameras produce phenomenal images. The raws are in the 55 mb range and they are really slow to work with (in camera and with Sigma's SPP software) and high ISO performance is poor. I typically make only minor adjustments in SPP then export 16-bit TIFFs for further manipulation in Aperture and with the NIK suite. I have a few on my Flickr page, including these.
