I'm looking at an old 50mm F1.4 FD mount lenses but wanted to ask if someone has tested this on their DSLR. I know that I will need an adapter and I will lose AF but wanted to see if IQ is as good as current EOS mounts.
Anyone has any samples they care to share?

Search around for info about recent FD-EOS adapters but historically they've been low quality.

Because of the properties of the lenses and lens mounts, an adapter will have to either be a short macro extension tube, which does not change image quality but means it cannot focus to infinity, or a low powered teleconvertor so the lens is a slightly longer focal length. And the second type can reduce image quality. Given the quality of most adapters that have been made, they seriously reduce the image quality.

If you are interested in going to older manual focus lenses you will get better quality if you go for other brands. Nikon, Pentax, Contax/Yashica, etc. Canon FD and Minolta are just not options.

thanks, I did a bit more research on the forum and found several threads which you had basically summed up :).
The guy I'm getting it from is offering me a super takumar 50mm 1.4 instead which he said is much better and more fit for EOS mounts. Will post sample shots later.
