Beautiful shots and both are shot from great perspectives. I do however, prefer the second shot. And I agree with TJays, nice processing.

Both of those are eminently printable, but...to carry it to the truly superior would require a better sky. What kind of a sky you might ask...I don't know, just more dramatic. ;)

Love the second shot. I think there is more interest in the sky to be found with a few more tweaks in post to knock it completely out of the park. Maybe a gradient filter ending at the horizon with a wide blend, with -.10EV or maybe just a tad of highlight recovery and a slight boost to clarity may be all it takes.

Nice shots, but I would have tried long exposures, to smooth out the water. The way they are now look like run of the mill sunrise snapshots.
I'm also not fond of the crop of #2. The pier leads my eye right out of the frame, and all the foreground water doesn't really add to the image IMO.

thanks for all the great feedback.
The sky is not something I can control, and since the place isn't local, it will have to wait till I am net there.
Longer exposure would have been nice, but all I had was a CPL. Maybe a ND is on the cards for my next purchase.
Jon - I will try that suggestion. thanks

cheers, Paul
