I HAVE NEVER SHOT FOOD BEFORE
This was my first attempt.
It was for a former bride who is putting together
a cookbook for her church's 75th anniversary.

I would really appreciate some c+c

I can see them. I like them, nice blurring of backgrounds.

A photograph is worth a thousand words, but Photoshop can produce a thousand lies. Photo editing allowed. I need all the help I can get.

They're all well done as far as I (not an expert) can tell, except that most are a little too light and I prefer more depth of field than is conventionally used for food.

I will agree. Well done (staged), but a little too light. No, food should not be contrasty, oversaturated and harsh. But still, a tad too light.

Depending on the feel of the book, the bright photos could be great. I personally like food shots that are very bright. Minor comment - I think #1 should have been more rear lit to show more shape. #4 the plate is too large since the shot is of the food, a large plain white plate doesn't add to the shot at all. #5 the chopsticks should be facing away rather than towards the viewer. #6 is too low of an angle creating an emphasis on the underside of the plate. I also think that one the focus point was missed, it seems to be the underside of the top object rather than the flat surface of either object. On flat objects like that I would rather have lit low from the side to show the texture of the item.

I think the food shots need more contrast. I love that last shot. You really did a good job with the little shadows.
