Pumazooma, nice macro shot with the 100-400L, but that's the Azure Damselfly you have there.

Anyone gone from 400 f/5.6L to 100-400L?
Thinking about having the IS, and apparently a good copy can be just as sharp as the 400 prime? Will the AF be much slowed for say birds?

Rent it for a week or so. Since you own the prime you are in perfect shape to see for yourself. That's what I will do, because I am thinking of going the opposite direction.....

Cheers.

Great blue heron, taken from the middle of my back yard one recent morning. He wasn't looking for breakfast at the time, and spent a good 20 minutes preening and cleaning.

It's only a 2-stop IS. But it's so much more versatile than the prime. :D

This lens is sharp enough for most of eyes especially in well light condition. The IS with 2 f stop is a little bit too short compared to others lenses that has 4 stops. However for flying birds and most airshow, this is the best lens you can get below $1500. Not as sharp as prime lens but much sharper than any lenses available in the market at 400mm zoom.
