I've been piecing together my gear for nearly a month now. Once my 430EX ii arrives, and my 100L gets exchanged (IS issues) it looks like I'll be done. Here are some pics I took of my dog this morning..first time seriously (attempting to?) photograph her. I wish I had my camera when she was a puppy. :\

Beauiful dog pics. What breed is she? Looks like part black lab and something else?

Yea we are enjoying it here. I do miss the beach though. We moved here because its cheaper than CA. I was a police officer in Northern California but hurt my back. They gave me a medical retirement which just isn't enough to support a family on in California. I looked for work for a year but couldn't even get an interview to deliver pizzas. I do make some money with photography but it wasn't steady enough to continue paying the mortgage and put food on the table. So here we are, in beautiful Prescott. Actually, we're on the south end of Prescott Valley. It gets a tad warmer than Prescott but not by much.

The beach is only 5 1/2 hours away so it's there when you need it. Plus, Prescott is an absolutely beautiful town and has a "peacefulness" that you're just not going to find it CA. I've lived in California 4 different times now and always move away because of the traffic, high business tax, and just an all-around lack of serenity.

The best advice I can give is to make sure you keep a sense of purpose in your life. Something that you're working towards, something you're creating in this world, etc...otherwise you'll find that your passion and fire for life will slowly diminish.

Have you been to Lake Watson yet? Some nice photo opportunities out there.

Yep, shes half lab and half pit. She's the most most energetic dog I've ever owned. She goes out to that field to run around and play fetch twice a day...if not, she won't let me get any work done and terrorizes the house. LOL

Thanks RickRandhawa. The place has grown on me quickly and I'm finding lots to keep me busy while looking for ways to make money. I've been doing a lot of networking and hoping it pays off. I might start a masters degree program, if nothing else.

I have a pit/shepherd mix and a staffordshire terrier. They're awesome dogs and are definitely full of energy. If I'm not up at 7:30 am they're pulling the blanket off me, ready to go outside and play.

Fun time with my friend Ken on Saturday night driving around looking for some friends in the night sky. The mission was either Milky Way, or Lightning.. We found the milky way so beautiful, but she was lightly covered in a veil of cloud....

Then we were treated to a intermittent llight show, that kept us on a little chase. We finally caught caught up with her in the wee hours and were able to capture a few nice images. Fun times! I wish I had a lightning trigger.. it was difficult to time the shots, so I just did 25- second exposures and hoped for some action.. Out near Picacho Peak.

Ken will be doing a couple of workshops in August/September on lightning/monsoon and Milky Way/Night Skies... if anyone is interested in having a look... http://kensklute.net/

James, I am IN LOVE with your Sedona shots! I have not been there in years,,, reminds me that I need to go. Your color, and clarity are awesome.. really nice quality images there.

I missed the dog pics Rick! NICE... they are so sharp and the clarity is gorgeous.. what combo were you using on these? Whatever lens combined with your talent.. came out nicely.
