Today I visited the Washington Wildfowl Trust bird sanctuary (N E England). This Grey Heron treated me to a fly by and landed across the lake from the hide I was in:

Great job of nailing the focus against a confused background; well done, Mark.

Its actually a Great Blue Heron... but the name doesn't take away from how nice the shots are. Nice work.

Thanks. Different names for a very similar, if not identical, bird. The US version is the Great Blue Heron, ours (in the UK) is the Grey Heron:

Nicely done Mark, looks like you had some good light. I find I have to dial in some underexposure with the whites on the heads of these.

Excellent set Mark, the flight shots turned out quite nice especially number two, that great big wing is well detailed, then the full reflection, pretty much covers it, Grand job!

Very nice. Tough bird to isolate from their background.
