Hey all..

Way OT, but if you have any friends you'd like to try to get in touch with "someday", do it.

My best friend growing up and my roommate in college took his own life yesterday. We had drifted a bit apart the last couple of years, and now I won't have a chance to get in touch with him again.

I'm really sorry, Keyan. I will be praying for you and for his family.

I do see slight OOF in the eyes, and unfortunately I think I have seen it in most or all of the shots which is why I suggested sharpening the eyes a few days ago :(

I agree that the one I posted the other day was oof. It was the shot that made me realize that once again I had missed focus. This example is better but I guess I really need to hone my skills. Gah!

Strange that you should say that now. I just emailed a friend I haven't seen in, oh, 10 years to see if he wants to go see Yes on Sunday. We've been in "someday we should get together" mode far too long.

Sorry to hear about your friend Keyan. That's a tough one.

For some reason the Canon 7D cost more for the body only than the 70D. I think that's so weird..

I think it's termed 'Marketing'...

For an even more head-scratching display, look at the pricetag of a new D300s versus the D7100. It makes absolutely no sense to me.

you are among friends here Brenda - if we learn all our mistakes early we are Blessed!

you have shot an excellent series! People look at eyes first, intuitively. If your shots can be perfected with a measly simple eye sharpening - you are on to great progress!

Yeah, well I can either learn from my mistakes or just put the camera on auto and just mosy along. I'm sure that are plenty of the momtographers that do that are completely satisfied. I, however, am not. But I do want to make sure it's me and not the equipment.

Well just for the sake of experimenting, and I know this sounds like a radical idea ;), but how about turning off AF and trying to manually focus some shots. Maybe try some with IS turned both off and on. And make sure the diopter setting for the viewfinder is set properly for your eyes. Unless your camera and subject are completely immobilized, maybe close down 1/2 or full stop to give you a bit of a "cushion" in your DOF.

Speaking of your equipment, where did you purchase your Tamron 70-200 OS from again? I remember seeing you post about it but don't recall if you posted the name or site.

It was Camera Land NY through their ebay store. They have a regular site as well. Very good customer service, I might add.
