Friday night I got to try something new to me...concert photography. It was at Eddie Owen Presents at the Red Clay Theater. The opening act was Steff Mahan, and the headliner was two time Grammy Nominated Jennifer Knapp. Thankfully, it was two solo artists, with no band. I enjoyed it. It is hard to come up with something creative when you have one subject, that doesn't move much...anyway...onto pictures. Comments, crits, likes and dislikes are more than welcome, and much appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Took a few seconds to figure out what was going on in #5. Cool idea, but I think you could try some variations and come up with one that made the artist pop more.

#6 is big money though, fantastic shot.

I really hate saying something "pops". Feels like that word has been taken over and ruined by people on reality TV. But I felt like it was the best fit, in this case.

Thanks for taking the time to look through and comment. I appreciate it.

#5 was just a test, I was trying to come up with something a little different. Had I thought about it at the time, I would have grabbed a chair and stood on it so that I could get the artist less cutoff by the sound board. I couldn't get too close to the soundboard, the sound guy doesn't like people encroaching on his space!

Glad #6 works, I wasn't sure if it would or not...this is my first time ever doing this kind of work...never know if the artist would love or hate that shot...

Agreed...the word pop has been over used, but sometimes it fits...

BTW...your sig line rocks!

Nice set and variation. #2 and 6 maybe a bit too tight.

Thanks. I hadn't thought they were tight, but I can see that.

I see what you were trying to accomplish on the last one, but there's too much motion blur which makes Knapp look soft.

#5 is good, but slightly too busy. If the lamp was there then it could work. I understand what you were trying to do though and it was a good attempt.

Others look good.

I met Jennifer Knapp a long time ago when she became big in the Christian music industry. Love her music.

Thanks for taking the time...yeah, the last was a compromise...it was also near the end of the set, next to last song, 4+ hours of shooting...i was trying to find something different.

Maybe one day I can shoot there again.

Nice shots! You've done awesome with the lighting!

My website has my most recent work - macro photography (external link), live music photography (external link) and am working on a book focusing on Brisbane live music (external link) as my way of giving back.
I also have some photography tips (external link) for those with new cameras.

Thanks. It was not the best, maybe next time there will be a band, they get more light.
