$1839.2 plus tax with free shipping promotion.
I doubt those will last. It will be nice if it shows up in the next 15 or 20% promotion.

excellent. tax kills it, but the next sale is going to make this a killer deal.

Any chance of this stacking with the loyalty program discount. Someone in that thread said you can also buy in stock lenses for 20% off when you buy a body through the program.

only certain lenses. I wouldn't expect the new ones to be applicable to that.

I just picked this up. Should be here Monday. I was so hesitant on buying this as I couldn't plunk down almost $2000 after tax. But I couldn't pass up on the deal I got for this lens.

I paid $1,929.00 shipped for a new one with a full US warranty at Adorama on April 15th when they had a sale... taxes just kill any chance of me buying any Canon "refrub's"... that $1839 EF 24-70mm f/2.8L II "refurb" is $2000.13 delivered after taxes here in the People Republic of California... I paid $71 less for a new one...

Another good (or bad) example is the "refurb'd" Canon EF 135mm f/2L is almost $950 shipped and you can get it on Amazon for $989 brand new with a full US warranty. The EF 85mm f/1.2L II "refurb" is about $1920 shipped to me and the new one on Amazon is $1999 brand new with a full US warranty. That's a whopping 4% savings on either lens. And what do I get for that huge savings? 9 months less warranty and a huge resale price hit if I ever decide to sell it...

The only way Canon Refurb's are somewhat of a value is when the have a sale but even then I'd rather pay 5 - 10% more and get a new one...

When those 15-20% rebates kick in, it will be an excellent deal!

Refrubs now have a full year warranty, so in most cases it will be same as new. Regardless of tax, this lens is worth $2000

I slightly disagree... this is a unit that failed in the field bad enough for Canon to accept it back, then they refurbish it... that is not really the same as new... something that has failed once is more likely to fail again than something that has never failed... and as far "worth", well maybe, unless you need to try and resell it...

Agreed... it just seems that those deals seem to kick in when virtually everything that is highly sought after is perpetually "out of stock".

It seems the new lenses have 1 year warranty. Don't know if this is permanent or just a temporary thing because its a new product. Older lenses still have 90 days.

Not all failed products are refurbs. They could just be returns, open box or demos. Since it can't be sold as new, its sent back to Canon for checking and cleaning.

Also refurbs have been discussed multiple times and have gotten high praises as its checked by actual technicians and meets Canon standards, where new lenses just roll off the factory line.

Something that's never failed will fail. There's nothing in life or any product that will never fail. Cars eventually crap out, so does your body, as well as marriages.

For the same price, same warranty, it's hard persuade me to marry the refurbs .
