Technically they can't, but there's been a lot of threads on there about people stealing pics online and putting them in their portfolios, etc, Plus people will print them adn they look like crap to us sure, but they think it''s great b/c it was "free"

I just downloaded a trial of Silver Efex Pro and I have a quick question. I only have LR 5 at this time to do my editing. When I choose an image to edit in Silver Efex the image gets changed to a Tiff file. Is this just the way it is? I'd rather keep it as a raw file because once I come back into LR I may want to adjust more things. The other options I see are PSD and JPEG but I don't think I want either of those, do I?

Thanks!

Lightroom will still happily allow you to edit the tiff file

SFX has to create a new file. Your raw is untouched. When you save back out of SFX, you should see the TIF file next to your original raw with an -edit.tif extension (IIRC)

you will not lose any quality with NIK software converting the files into TIFF files. But it is worth tweaking your files in LR, before converting in NIK software, then doing some light touch-ups once you go back into LR.

Great! Thank you all for helping me understand this process. I was concerned that once I got it back into LR I'd loose some quality if I made some more slight adjustments.

Fortunately, .tif is an uncompressed "lossless" file format.
