Good start! Try for some rotor blur with the flares.

I did try to get some blur on props and rotors, but found it difficult to get the shuter slow enough to hand hold and retain sharpness....any tips?

helos are definitely harder than props to get decent blur, i've found start shutter at around 1/320 and see how far you can go down and still get sharp subject...

Proper stance and hand-holding techniques can help but nothing beats:

Practice...

No real substitute for repetition and muscle memory.

As you really need 1/160 or slower for even reasonable blur on helo's it is just a matter of practice. A faster pass speed helps, as the paning motion helps reduce the vertical shake a bit, you just have to match the swing speed correctly then. Burst mode can help too, as I often find the second or third shot will be better than the first, as then you are only holding not pressing. Lots of shots also help when keeper rates are so low, and it helps the "practice" IS also really helps for this.

First get "a shot", as you did. Then on your 2nd day there, try for "THE shot". ; )
