I shot these for a friend 2 weeks ago. I'm looking for constructive criticism on what I did right, what I did wrong, and any tips for the next time I shoot a car. I do not own a "proper" lighting setup. These were taken with my 60D on a tripod in natural lighting.

Nissan USA actually retweeted this next one, which I thought was pretty cool

One of the biggest issues I have is panning and getting a good rolling shot. I had my buddy drive back and forth several times as I shot away, but I kept getting blurry shots. Despite trying many different shutter speeds, I just couldn't get a clean, crisp picture. I am not satisfied at all with these rolling shots. I would GREATLY appreciate any advice or a link to some good reading on this. Thanks in advance!

These are OK shots.

Help us out! Got the EXIF settings? Shutter speed? AI Servo? First Attempt at Panning

#4 has nice body defining highlights in the hood & #7 has fairly good ones in the side. Try to get both in one shot. See the links in my Sig, and...

thanks for feedback, I've already began reading the links in your sig =) but still plenty more to read.

first rolling shot: ISO 320, f8, 1/80 sec

2nd rolling shot: ISO 320, f8, 1/50 sec

But I tried MANY MANY more settings, and these are the ones that came out even halfway decent. The rest were worse. Is there a suggested "if the person is driving XX mph, try a shutter of 1/XX" ??

No, because "It depends on the distance to the subject, the angle of movement to the camera of the subject, the focal length, the speed of the subject, & the effect that you're trying to get."

"Pre-Cruise" at 1/15 seconds - 7/28/12
Same shutter speed, same lens... see what I mean?

Thanks for the links. I'm definitely going to read through them tonight. And yes, I was using AI Servo. But I definitely need a lot more practice in general. I'll prob come to you with more questions =)
