Tamron 24-70 for $910?

No sweat. I know a few people with this lens and none have experienced the issue to date, but I think they're a bit more gentle with it, just in case!

From the research I did, this was an issue with a small amount of the first or second batch of lenses. None of these should be sold any longer from stores with fresh stock, but if the place you're buying from has old stock...

Agreed. It appears to have been an issue in the early batch(es), but have you seen whether Tamron ever actually acknowledged the issue or confirmed that they did anything about it?

I'd like to believe that it's limited to an early batch, but buying from overseas with warranty returns being more difficult would make me want to know more.

My thinking (right or wrong) is, in the unlikely event that I have this problem, the worst case scenario is that I have to get it fixed out of warranty, and even then, the cost of the lens + the repair is less than I'd pay another way.

I didn't get mine for quite as cheap, but one of my favorite (and most reputable) etailers has the lens for 1189, works out to 1089 after rebate. From a Tamron authorized seller.

I saved on the lens, and of course ended up choosing next day shipping to offset that ($20) They don't fulfill quite as quick as amazon so an order yesterday afternoon won't ship until today, but...

+1 for Newegg! I've never bought camera equipment from them, but have bought tons of computer related stuff from them over the years.

Ok, it came! No additional charges, so my total payment including tax and shipping was $910. The package was in my mailbox, it appears to be brand new. The warranty card has no English on it. I have snapped a few test shots and all appears good. The lens is a tank!

Ya I also felt the same when I rented I for 10 days. It is solid

I got a lineup of a new one from a USA auborized dealer for 1099 and with the 100 rebate making it 999 with 6yr warranty. I like that idea alot

Yes the lens is a tank! it's heavier than my old Canon 24-70

It's definitely substantial, but it's actually about 4oz lighter than the brick. Enjoy the lens! I really dug it when I owned one.

I'm just getting to know it, a pleasure so far...
