Are these memberships of any use?

I get most of my media passes upon request. Will either of these boost my legitimacy?

If you want to use it to gain access to events then no it's not useful. These "Press Passes" are essentially just pieces of paper with the word Press on it.

Yes, they are just cards.. But the back-stage and pit-passes help get better shots, as you are very aware. I get turned-down about 10% of the time which isn't bad. I was actually wondering about the organizations that were in the original post. A lot of these "Associations" do just hand out stupid "press" cards, which just make you look silly.
