Sensor noise, & Michigan weather.

This and...the fact that I need to SLOW down and think more. I know what I need to do but can't seem to kick the P&S habit. Grrr.

When out shooting with my kids (who are not really into photography) and I end up following them around because they find the perfect shot, the better angle. Then everyone around us starts laughing, because my sweet kids are not quite about me stealing their the shots they found first.

Suggestions welcome.

I'll start out by saying that my biggest frustration is slow AF....even when it's fast. There have been many times where I'm challenged in very low light with a wonderful photo opportunity but it is fleeting....and while I can bring the camera up and frame the pic, the fraction of a second it takes AF to lock....the moment is gone and the photo is missed.

Then you would have absolutely flogged yourself and your gear in the days of manual focus photography, much less manual focus in low light!

My contribution to this thread:

  1. When I use an electronic camera and cannot take any more photos because the battery has run flat. With a mechanical camera, I can continue shooting virtually forever, apart from running out of film. With an electronic camera, sometimes there simply is no recourse because you cannot carry an infinite supply of batteries for an infinite period of time...and batteries go flat even without use.
  2. Not being able to project images at any more than pathetic 2Megapixel resolution (HDTV)...if you ever watched someone display images via projection from medium format film, you'd instantly understand.
  3. The cr*p quality digital projection cinema, where you see each pixel without even sitting in the front rows.

You need to give me OK to edit your image and repost! Keep POTN alive and well with member support https://photography-on-the.net/forum/donate.php

Yep, and high school football with manual focus and tri-x was the biggest challenge of them all.

Deciding NOT to take two cameras while hiking in the wilderness with long and short lens on each. Thinking I can just switch the lens when I need to, then wildlife shows up when you have the short lens on.... (Murphys Law). Then the wife complaining that you missed the shot and took too much time to change the lens.

Learning to get good indoor photographs while out and about. I'm fine if all I'm doing is inside shots but going from outside to inside gives me fits. We are on the way back from Las Vegas so outside into a hotel/casino is fresh on my mind. I should have taken my camera
bag so I had my flash. I couldn't take a decent photo to save my soul.

Not being good enough at it.

Going on a photography trip to come home with no keepers

Or, conversely, going on a photography outing, taking a few hundred shots, and then coming home and finding no/few non-keepers!!

Not being able to get the camera where I want it to be, and properly focused, at the time I want it to be there.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I can only imagine....I picked up my first SLR in the early 90's so I've always been able to enjoy AF. While I do shoot MF at times, I certainly wouldn't want to do it all of the time. So often I'll see a wonderful photo opportunity at an event and it's over before the AF ever has a chance....I assume MF would only magnify the issue :)

This happens to me from time to time also... But at the same time just getting the gear out to go shooting is theraputic enough even if I don't get what I'm looking for.
