I spent a lot of time researching for my Top 10 List of Female Portrait Photographers. Who would have added or deleted from my list?

Searching for female portrait photographers led me to more portraits of females than photographers unlike when I did my male heavy list.

Why split female and male photographers? I mean, it's like chess and other mostly intellectual pursuits - why is there a need for gender-based distinction? Are DSLRs too heavy for them to lift or something?

I believe many female photographers are overshadowed especially in the past. Here is my otherTop 10 Portrait Photographers (external link) list which only included one female. I wanted an all female list as a way to thin the crowd as well as being more specialized or unique.

Why not? Men and women often see things differently :-)

Glad to see Mary Ellen Mark being mentioned. She has made some extremely powerful pictures. There is an article on Vice that talks about her project with some homeless kids in Seattle and then there is her project Falkland Roads about a brothel in Bombay (now Mumbai). Very powerful pictures.

I' not sure I understand your question, "Which female photographers would you choose?" What is it that I am choosing them for? Are they to be assistants? Co-workers? Are they to provide stock? Or do you mean, if I was a customer needing to hire a photographer, who would I choose to have do the job for me? Some clarification would be helpful.

I can think of several excellent female wildlife photographers who would definitely be on my list if I were to start a stock agency, and was looking for quality contributors.

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

The most straightforward interpretation is: in your opinion, which of them produce the best work?

kinda like asking "who is the best artist" (for example) in music - plenty of opinions!

I see. I thought we were choosing them for something in particular; this, I guess, is just a "whose work do you like the most" question.

Well, as I mentioned beforehand, several excellent wildlife photographers come to mind readily. But, I am not going to list them here, as I know them all personally, and they might be weirded out if I name them on a public forum; it just doesn't seem like a very professional thing to do. But, if anyone wants to know who my personal favorites are, they can feel free to email me (not PM, please) and I will respond with my "choices".
