Microfiber or Tissues?

Just gauging the general mood on here regarding these two types of cleaning solutions. I used microfiber but found that hand-washing the cloths resulted in some grimy runoff that didn't seem to be reasonable for what I cleaned off of the glass. I just bought some tissues as they are disposable so no worries about dirty cloths. What say you?

never! I use a rocket blower, lens brush and then a zeiss lens wipe. if I do use a cloth (very rarely), i use a microfiber.

i rarely clean them, but i have a rocket blower a liquid (i forgot its name) and tissues

Did you use a photograpic microfiber cloth, purchased from a photo store? You can buy microfiber from any old store, including automotive supply stores, today! Gawd knows how poorly this stuff is manufactured.

Tests done decades ago and published in Modern Photography magazine by Herb Keppler demonstrated how cheap lens tissues abraded the coatings of lenses, and even Kodak Lens Cleaning Tissues --the best of the tissues on the market -- left some level of microabrasions. Only microfiber did not leave microabrasions.

Yes, you need to launder microfiber periodically, to keep them free from accumulating grit.

Old Tshirt,clean, or a top notch microfiber cloth . Not the stuff you get at the supermarket, the ones that come with expensive glasses or digital backs .
Never paper towels, they have wood particles in them .

My fav, Kodak lens cleaning paper .

I was using Rayban cloths but those were the ones I was having issues with. I'm going to stick with the paper for now. Bought a few rolls from Jessops so I'll go through those and see what is what. I'll keep some microfibers in the bag for general cleaning in the meantime.

Zeiss Liquid Lens Cleaner, 3M Lens & Electronics microfiber cleaning cloth, Smartwax #80401 Clean Microfiber.

I use an electrostatic discharged wool fiber cloth from the belly of pregnant lamb that was sheared on a full moon. The fiber cloth is kept in a hermetically sealed, moisture free environment at exactly 63 degrees F.
I then moisten the cloth with a solution used only by certified technicians at Swarovski Crystal and wipe six times in a counter- clockwise motion then five and one-quarter times
Counter- clockwise. Etc etc.

Really !!! The tee shirt sounds like the best idea yet.

I primarily use a lens pen, but I manage to accumulate lens cloths at about the same rate as I use them. I don't wash them, but after they've seen enough uses I re-purpose them and move on to another.
I do have a few boxes of the Zeiss cleaning wipes, but I don't use them too often.

Apparently the business that launched the Zeiss cleaning wipes failed to communicate with the Zeiss photography arm...the photo arm has officially told people to NOT USE them! There is a 2009 thread on POTN about streaking with Zeiss wipes, and he reported that Zeiss replied:

"Dear XXXX,

" The product you refer to is sold by the Carl Zeiss Vision division and is intended for use on eyeglasses and not multi-coated camera lenses. I have forwarded your message to them for follow-up.

" The Carl Zeiss Camera Lens Division has a line of lens cleaning products which can be purchased through any of our authorized dealers. These include a lens cleaning fluid in a pump spray bottle, pre-moistened lens cleaning cloths and microfiber cloths. I have attached a list of these dealers for your reference. Alternatively, you can use any quality lens cleaning products that are designed for camera lenses."

As a follow up to his earlier post, the same person later posted:

"got two calls from a very, very nice person in the customer service department. The summary of our conversations is basically this:

"1. Zeiss is sending me lens wipes that are appropriate for camera lenses. I can't wait to try them out!

"2. Zeiss is now aware of the strange disconnect between the package design, product description, and the intended use of the "Zeiss Lens Cloths". Presumably, Zeiss will endeavor to fix this bizzare and confusing situation.

" 3. It is still not clear to me who is responsible for the confusion, Zeiss or Nice-Pak Products of NY, the manufacturer of the Zeiss Lens Cloths. I did not press my contact for an explanation, as I did not want to put her into an uncomfortable position."
