Ok, thanks again. Do you know the names/makers of the "good" ones?

Ok, i saw the Dewey Beach photos. I grew up some in Dover,DE. Used to go the all of beaches all the time. I have friend that lives in Rehobeth now wanting to get into photography. It's definitely a picture worthy area.

I use adapters from Fotodix and EZfoto depending on the mount. The only brand I'd recommend staying away from is Rainbow Imaging, I had one adapter from them that didn't play nice with my 6D's metering and it never mounted smoothly

I was at Dewey Beach helping my friend renovate his beach house. Hopefully I'll get to go up there to actually stay and enjoy the beach before the summer is over... beautiful area :)

Thanks Astro. Do you know which, or have a link to the correct adapter (with focus confirmation) that I would need to be able to use the Yashica ML on my 5D?

I use the $30 Fotodiox confirm C/Y EOS adapters from Amazon on my 6D and EOS M, I have two and both work great ;)

Thanks for the links and info., Astro and Getaway. After reading the customer reviews on that adapter though (on Amazon), it sounds like it's sort of a hit or miss situation. I'm not real mechanically gifted, so may have to do a lot more reading on this subject before spending money on manual lenses and the adapters. :(

I would also recommend getting a silver/chrome finished adapter. I have both, silver and black and find the lens tends to stick more when tightened with the black adapter. The chrome/silver are made from brass, but the others are made from an alloy. The brass are more expensive, but worth it, in my opinion.

I would like to try one of these on my 5D Classic/I DSLR, but don't understand how the adapters work. Is one of these (http://www.ebay.com …Tubes&hash=item564977ce1b (external link)) inexpensive adapter rings all I would need for that Helios 44/2 to attach perfectly to my 5D for manual focusing? If so, is it simple to attach, or would I have to do some filing, etc. on it?

Also, would that same lens adapter mount work for attaching a Yashica ML 50mm 1.7 to my 5D? Thanks.

For the Yashica (exact same lens) I use this one (external link). No lens modification needed. Just screw it on the lens then mount to camera and snap away.

Took this one with the 50mm 1.7 yesterday:

i actually JUST bought a Yashica ML 50 1.7 on eBay (first MF lens :D) and I now need a CY to EOS adapter. i prefer to buy one with AF confirmation. after looking at the one mentioned above, people are saying that the AF confirm isn't that reliable.

what is the best CY to EOS adapter with AF confirmation?

Not sure any of them will be 100% accurate. Moving subjects and stopping down will throw off the focusing sensors on your camera. I know when I stop down to around 5.6 It gets hard to see, and that has to be throwing off the AF sensors. Wide open though, they are pretty spot on...as long as your subject isn't moving in any way.

This one is at 5.6 and when you go 1:1 with it you can see capillaries extending from the colored portion of the eye out into the white. Focus is on proximal eye. I'd say it's dead on.

Is the Yashica different from the Zeiss 50 F1.7? I've got the latter, and on two converters, it was tricky getting the aperture ring to play nice. However, it's the MMJ version, and putting that same lense on a C/Y body (like the Aria) results in it not moving until the shutter closes. Not sure how the MMJ vs. AEJ versions work w/ those converters. I tried one with a Dandelion chip.

My Yashica stops down as you twist the ring. The adapter has no effect on the aperture operation on any of my Yashicas. All of my Yashicas are C/Y mount, but certainly the M42s work the same way.

There may be a switch on the back or side of the lens. I know on a few of my M42 mount lenses there is a little pin on the back that switches into manual aperture. My first vintage lens was a M42 mount Yashica 50/1.7 DS-M and I thought it was broken at first because I couldn't get it to stop down when free-lensing. Then I bought an adapter and when I fit it to the adapter it pushed the pin down and allowed me to work the aperture, I only realized it when I took the adapter back off to figure out why it was suddenly working.

My PK lens has a switch on the side, my C/Y lenses have a lever on the back (which I broke off to keep it from interfering with my mirror), but it defaults in the manual aperture setting.

I picked up an Asahi SMC Takumar 50mm f/1.4 last week. I've only used it once, but am super impressed. This was shot wide open on my EOS M. Focus may be a little off due to windy conditions. No PP at all - the color saturation on this lens is fantastic!

Any wide angle (20mm-28mm) recommendations? mainly looking for something with decent corners (since my 24-105 seems quite soft in the corners at wider angles).

I'm very pleased with my Yashica ML 28mm 2.8, many people say it can hold its own against the Zeiss Distagon, I've never shot with the Zeiss so I can't say for sure, but my Yashica 28mm is possibly my sharpest lens corner to corner. I've read good things about their other wide angle lenses too, though they cost more ;)
