Thank you! I just went and ordered some 2-to-1 cables and battery holders, but honestly I am disappointed with 9' extension cable. I was hoping for shorter version of 15' cable, direct replacement, not an extension, and 1-to-2 splitter head kills it for me.
Zoran: Not difficult to cut the centre out of a standard 5 metre extension and splice the cut ends together - it's only 3 wires matched colour to same colour. Don't forget to slip the polyolefin shrink tubing on before you start to solder them back together. Yes, I did - so here's a chance to learn from my mistake. I totally agree, though, that it shouldn't be necessary to DIY parts. Then again, the system has only been on the market for 7 months so things are still growing & evolving quite rapidly.
On the battery clamps, have you noticed the threaded hole for a suitable hook for hanging your surplus cable on?

I'm surprised you guys haven't been jumping up and down about this earlier. Maybe other people thought the 9' cord was going to be a regular straight cord as well.
A simple straight cable seems like the obvious need. 8 ' (2.4M) I would think would be more than enough.
I think they should add a few feet of straight cord to each end of the standard coiled cord as well.
NOT direct from Godox (2nd or 3rd hand depending on how you read it), I understand that the issue of shorter-than-5-metre extension cords was raised at the outset and evoked no response whatsoever from Godox. I can envisage the occasional need for a 5m length, but half that amount would be much more useful as a starting point. I posted one possible solution here back in June, with a supplementary post here.
This
is the result of a little light butchery on my part.
This gave me:-
- A 2.5m extension cable with original plugs on either end.
- The original 5 metre cable, but with some joints.
- The option to string together an unmodded 5m extension and some of my bits for an even longer cable if ever need (not that I've needed it yet though).
- A variable length extension for my Cx Canon-fit cables.
All for less than the cost of one Quantum cable which would offer very considerably less versatility.
--oo0oo--
I also took the opportunity to mod the plugs and sockets to make them more user-friendly. I hadn't even noticed the self-coloured marks moulded into some, not all, of the sockets so they're obvously crying out for development. Tiny plastic pips inserted into the sides of plugs, beside sockets and into the ends of flash-end plugs gave both tactile and visual orientation aids. Although the pips are very small, the improvement in handling is immeasurably beyond what their size would suggest. If anyone wants to emulate, PM me for more details - the pips are singularly not easy to find as 3 of us on 2 continents discovered but I've managed to buy ( retail
ouch) a small number. First come, first served cos there won't be any more.
