It's the replacement, newer.
I don't recall the ins and outs off hand, but when this deal first showed up I was also ignorant of the latest models. I did some research and found that the Pro 100 is indeed as it should be a new and slight step up from the 9000.
I jumped on this deal and my only regret is not getting two!

+1

The ink and paper put you ahead quite a bit with a 2nd purchase.

plus Wifi, which, for me, is very convenient because the area my computer is in doesn't really have a suitable space for a gigantic printer.

Helps that I had an ebay coupon that brought the initial cost to $350 so $50 after rebate for the printer and paper. It was that or a Sigma 35 and at the moment $800 wasn't something I wanted to plop down for a lens I wouldn't really use too often.

Do they use the same ink? This is interesting. I could get a Pro 100 for about the price of the ink ... lol

I believe that the Pro-100 takes Cli-42 cartridges. I looked for generics on eBay, and about the best I came up with was pint bottles of ink to refill the existing cartridges with.

You need 1 printer + 1 one pack of paper (50 pack of Pro Luster or Semi Gloss) for the $300 rebate and is the one that makes the most sense unless you need a camera too.

The Pro-100 & 9000 MkII both use "Dye" based inks. The Pro-10 & 9500 MkII both use "pigment" based inks. The pigment inks are supposed to last longer and reproduce B&W prints with more depth and contrast. The "dye" based ones are better for producing bright & vibrant colors but they will fade faster. Today's modern high-end paper, for the most part, has (pardon the pun) blurred the lines between these two inks.

Check out this website for info on selecting the right type of paper to make "dye" based inks last virtually as long as "pigment" based inks on paper... Dye or Pigment? Facts you need to know. (external link)

No, just make sure you send an itemized receipt in with your rebate. I requested one from B&W that showed the paper and printer separated, am unsure if you will have to do that from Adorama or not.

No idea what this list is. Adorama and B&H have their logos on the rebate forms and different promotion IDs.

There is no generic rebate for any of the listed companies.

Update: I was wrong. I looked up CALUMET and they do have the rebate form with Promo ID. Just not the lowest price. Now I'm confused on what the list is. I just got approved for the B&H purchase.

I just ordered the PRO-100 from Adorama. $389

Reviewers from Adorama are stating that they are receiving their rebates. The rebate form on Adorama's website does specify that the rebate is only valid from Adorama or Adorama.com

As soon as I receive the printer I will Pre-Submit the rebate through the Canon website, if they tell me I cannot get the rebate I will send the unit back to Adorama and see if my local Hunt's Photo will price match to Adorama's Website.

I'm hoping for the best. :-)

Now on to shopping for the perfect papers ;-)a

According to Wilhelm Imagin Research, the PRO-1 using the latest semi-gloss is only good for 36 years (not framed), 71 yrs (framed under glass), 138 yrs (framed under UV glass, and >200 yrs in dark storage. I'd love to see WIR conduct a test using the reformulated dye inks used in the PRO-100. http://wilhelm-research.com/canon/CanonPixmaPro-1.html (external link)

What is very interesting are the results of other papers using inks from Canon, Epson, and HP. The test of the Canson Infinity Line show values that are amazing. http://wilhelm-research.com/Canson/canson_infinity.html (external link)

One paper for example: Canson Infinity Rag Photographique
Epson: 36 yrs (no glass), 69 yrs (under glass), 125 yrs (uv glass)
Canon: 56 yrs (no glass), 108 yrs (under glass), 199 yrs (uv glass)
HP: 85 yrs (no glass), 219 yrs (under glass), >450 yrs (uv glass)

HP inks really last that much longer? greater than 450 years if framed under UV glass? Now that is permanence!

You should have no issues, I got the same deal thru B&H and quickly got the $300 rebate.

I only wish that these rebates did not require a printer purchase - much easier to unload (or at least ship) an extra lens than a 65 pound printer.

Just ordered it through adorama... need a new printer here anyways.

Question about pre-submitting, it's asking for the printers serial number, do you have to wait to pre-submit until you actually get the printer?
