here's a shot I took at Squaw Creek NWL Reserve, of a buck wading at sunset.

'Sorry, I messed up somewhere when I was trying to downsize the image to the 150k limit. I'll try to back-track the problem...

Just post it on Flickr, and link it back here. Much easier, and you don't have to re-size it. Can't wait to see it in a larger size.

Bob,
What state do you live in (I am assuming you're in the states, because that looks like a Whitetail buck). Do you often see nice mature bucks like this at Squaw Creek NWR?

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

I'm guessing Bob is in Missouri. Here in Ohio we have whitetail deer by the hundreds of thousands. At times it is a real struggle to drive the roads because of the large herds. I've seen as many as 100 at a time or more. The population seems to have dropped down in the last few years likely because of the black bear that moved in to hunt them. But for about 20 years it was almost certain that I would see 20-30 between my house and the local town where I buy groceries etc.. I don't live in that area now but I live in another part of Ohio. The deer are actually bigger here but I don't see as many of them. Just across the Ohio River in Kentucky is where I saw the giant herds though. I have seen large herds in Ohio too but the herds with 100 or more are just a few miles away on the other side of the river. I'm talking less than 10 miles from my house.

When I grew up in that same area in Kentucky I almost never saw a deer. Something killed almost all of them. It was some disease I hear. I really don't know. I just know I lived in a very remote area and I saw the same deer about 3 times in a decade and that was it. Then they just exploded in population. I'm sure the state brought in deer from other areas where they were thriving. They did the same thing with bears. They released 500 one summer about 3 miles from the farm where I grew up. I've been seeing bears everywhere since then including eating my dog's food not more than 50 feet from my front door.
