I took this whole set at our local Viking Assault event using the 70-200 F4 IS. Really showed its versatility. Super sharp. So glad I bought it!

Im thinking of trading my 70-200 2.8 IS v.1 for this bad boy! I had it before and loved it, but was heading toward wedding photography so I opted for the 2.8. I've now had my time with weddings and am focusing on landscape. I rarely use this FL, not sure if its because I don't feel like lugging the beast of a lens around or just don't use the FL. I usually go to my 16-35.

Anyone out there a landscape photographer and keep this lens in the bag? FIgure its small and light enough to have for those time you need it!

Tack sharp, little angel. This one I am not sure if its the photographer, lens, camera or the subject. I am leaning towards the subject. ;)

I don't think I've posted in this thread since I've switched from the 40D to 5DIII.

I have another question about this lens, since I am still in a financial holding pattern before I can buy one. I've read some about the 70-200mm f/2.8 showing some blur at the corners of images when it's at it's maximum focal length. Looking backward through a few pages here, I don't see evidence of that in this lens. Have any of you experienced any sort of focus problems with the f/4 at 200mm?

Soft edges/corners, and focus problems are two different things. I've experienced no focus problems with this lens at any focal length. A lot of lenses are softer in the corners than in the middle, especially on a full frame camera; the nature of the beast.

I like this tool for comparing lens sharpness... center, mid-frame, corners... of various lenses at different f/stops:

Yes, I misstated that, didn't I? The problem that I've been reading about is, I suppose, softness in the corners rather than being OOF. The disturbing part is that the lens is generally so sharp that it makes the softness more apparent. I have had the same issue with my 28-80L, but it isn't as distinctive because the lens isn't as sharp overall (it's also 24 years old & still does the job - I'm not complaining). The other disturbing part is the price of the f/2.8 mk II lens. That's a lot of dollars to pay for fuzzy corners.

Eric, you asked if any of us carry our 70-200mm when out shooting landscapes. Always. I use the 24-105mm most of the time, but when I want a shot to be really, really crisp I use the 70-200 and stitch a few shots together. The 24-105 is sharp, but no where close to the 70-200 f/4.
