If I am shooting RAW + Jpeg, when I select "Image Quality" and "Image Size", it is only referring to the JPEG, correct? I just tried it, and the JPEG image is 2464x1632 instead of full size, but the RAW seems to be the full size as usual. Just want to make sure before I start shooting like this.

Any professional photographer here who owns both the Canon 5d Mark III and the Nikon D800/E ?
I need to know if it`s real the rumour saying the Nikon locks much quicker in very low light conditions when using a speedlight. I`m willing to know about the extreme left or right focus points also.

I feel the Canon struggles a lot in low light with locking focus.. and heard the D800 locks faster.

I shoot full RAW but, you can opt to choose the jpeg size you want. :)

I've used the D800/E in low light and it does a good job even with a weak AF motor from the 50 1.8 G.

Is it faster with locking focus in low light than the 5d 3 ? (for wedding receptions mainly - people moving around, dancing, etc)

The biggest difference is when not shooting with a speedlight since the Nikon has the focus assist lamp. I don't think you'll find much of a difference with a speedlight.

I recently shot a wedding with 5d3 + the 430ex II.
The light on the dance ring went down to low levels.

I had a hard time getting people in focus while they began dancing even with the focus assist coming from the speedlite. It was just struggling too much. Some shots took over 2 seconds of hunting.
In fact I tried it again these days and the camera locked focus faster with AF assist turned off..
The event went alright but I missed too much great shots because of the AF alone.

Yeah, it's Vedauwoo. It is a great area to spend a couple of days in, as you already know ;)

Were you in Laramie for Wyotech? One of my brother-in-laws went through that program and one on the east coast. He now works down in Broomfield making some serious custom Audis (huge twin turbo charged 5-cylinder 800+ HP racers).

yessir that is where i went! i went for diesel, sounds like your brother has a real nice job and gets to play with the big boy toys!

and you are right that place is so beautiful its not even funny. also have you guys been down the trail back trail that goes from the back of the lincoln monument (top of the pass between laramie and cheyenne) down into cheyenne? there are some amazing places there as well, but you will need a 4x4 rig.
