Who in this thread is using the new production Helios lens ? how does it compare to the older models?

I have both. Apart from the more convenient 67mm filter thread on the new model and the black color, they are optically identical. I didn't notice any differences in image. The new model is supposed to have better multicoating as well, but again, I cannot tell the difference optically.

I am interested in picking up a Helios 44M-4, what would be considered a "good" price for one in VG to EX condition?

$50-60

I paid $40 for mine in mint condition inside the US. You can find them cheaper if you're willing to wait for the shipping from Eastern Europe.

Also, don't get hung up on the second number, any 44m after the 2 (3-10 I believe) are the same optically.
