I think you know what mistakes you made already and learned from them.

As far as backing out, I would not do it. You really do need to get that contract rewritten and signed too. If she will not agree to the terms then it is on her. She really put you in bad position and it is time to turn the tables.

Your are giving her a LOT already...

You screwed yourself from the beginning by not following proper business practices. Next time, get a contract and clarify everything then get it signed and that's it. If anything needs to be changed then it's done on an amendment to the contract and signed by both parties, including any additional payments, etc.

Or, next time just stop doing photography until you learn how to run a business.

The thing is barely anyone starting out seems to these days. I'm still amazed how many people sell photos without understanding the copyrights involved in the products/services they are selling.

It is like selling a car but not even knowing the make and model.

there are a lot of people that do that too. i met a "truck manager" at a place one time that didn't even know everything about the vehicles that was listed in the ad, let alone what was under the hood.

I believe that the OP's original title was "Little Help". Piling on does not help him at all. Personally, if they have not signed the contract, I would go back to them with the actual cost of a second shooter to handle the "few" stills that they want. Then they can decide if the stills are that important. JMHO.

I have a feeling that you're not going to see that money at the end of the night...

To be fair to the client, the contract does say "$1000 due the day of filming". It doesn't specify when, so the client paying you at the end of the day is still compliant with the contract.
