They don't move like the star trails. ISo 400 does it and so does 1600, aperture 18 and shutter around 5 seconds My Flickr

When it comes to values, keep your lens wide open (looking at your specs 17mm@2.8 or 24mm@3.5) and exposure 15-30sec. If you're shooting with 24mm lens try about 20sec, as 30sec might be to long and will leave you with some startrails (stars won't be seen as perfect dots). Another thing you have to do is to focus to infinity and turn AF off.

I saw a couple of meteors before leaving the parking lot at Carvers Gap and a couple more while on Round Bald. It was when I was making this panorama image that a very fast and bright meteor streaked into the next to last exposure. The "shooting star" even sparkled for a second before leaving a faint gray mark in the sky. I was overjoyed. The Glory of Art is in the pointing to the Greatest Artist of All.

I noticed that too, that the Milky Way was less intense later into the night. I also noticed that there were just as many meteors earlier in the evening, like 11pm to midnight, as there were from 3-4 am. So tonight it will be an earlier night for me IAN - Living life on the shores of the Wallace River in northern Nova Scotia, Canada :
