I am in the middle of getting my daughter cheering associations T&I pictures. I know alot of folks use Millers and while I have an account with millers, I am going with Black River at least for this year cause it just seems their software is easier to create an envelope. I am learning this and will get better.

But the board has asked for a selection of backgrounds and also borders that go around the team photo. My plan is to shoot on grey paper and swap out the background in post. Is this a good/ bad idea? also where are you getting your different backgrounds? Last year their photog had a nice digital background he used. I obviously would prefer a place that may have free backgrounds, but I have no problem buying them either.

thanks

another thing - is there a release form that I need to get signed, like I would for a portrait session.

back to my post above - I am seriously considering, going with a blown out white background. I already have the grey paper. I will just get alot of light on it

For T&I I use H&H Color Lab. Their software is great and easy to use and you can design your own envelope or use theirs and picking the color.

As far as back grounds...no I don't offer them different ones...but with a properly lit green screen it can be done...but still too much time.

You do not need a release signed for this. Only time you'll need a release is if you're going to use the image commercially. In this case it is only being sold to the parents.

I signed up with H&H. I really like their sports envelopes. I have to order enveloped tomorrow. I am going to see if I can replicate the same items I already laid out with Black River. I gave a PDF of the products and prices to the board already so I don't want to deviate from it. This organization is very fickle and has gotten a new company every year. I am trying to not become their statistic this year. Since I have been with them thru my daughter for several years now, I have already documented why this happens and it is mainly due to difficulty in communication and consistency and thought overload. Pictures are a necessary evil that gets in their way and they see as a distraction. I am employing a lot if KISS and remaining available. It's working.

Thanks for that company. I have to check my packages and what my costs vs net will be and if I can remain at the price point I am without giving up profit
