PT, nice pic! ...after you snapped it, you shoulda took him for a spin!!

Slow start at the lake today, TONS of early fog, but after it burned off, perfect light for my 100-400L. I felt like I couldn't take a bad shot today. On an overcast day I struggle a bit with it, but with full sunshine it's tough to beat.

Im back with my rolling shots.. and truthfully I'm not too happy with them but I guess I can't be too dissapointed being my first attempt. I got more of a ghosting blur rather than a blended streak like I wanted. I see a few rollers posted in here before and ideas from those who have done it.

Shot at 45 mph. 1/20. 7.1

1/20 is a little fast for a long blur. You may try going to a slower shutter speed on a very smooth road, slowing down the shutter and using some diffused flash to stop the car motion, or you could always speed the cars way up and stay at 1/20.

Cool shot, Ken, and perfect timing, too! I tried taking star photos last night and failed. I set my lens to infinity & fired away...and they were all slightly blurry, making them useless. I couldn't get a lock on anything because I was in pretty much total darkness. So the question is...how do you set your focal point?

Set it to infinitely, use a small aperture and mount on a tripod.

That's exactly what I did. I used my 15-85, 15mm @ 3.5, ISO 800 (maybe 1600, I don't remember), and 30 seconds. The pics looked great, but the treeline and stars all showed up out of focus. I was really jacked, because in the viewfinder they looked awesome. I took over 100 shots and had to delete them all, grrr!!!

Quick .02 from me, i've found if you're on the wide side and your foreground is relativity close, focusing a hair before infinity can help resolve this.

Well, i can make out the Orion constellation in the first pic at least :D

Also looks like you're starting to get slight star trails, maybe up the ISO and slow the shutter to about 20 sec?
